naufrage
Naufrage is a single-channel video installation composed of archival images of the Gallo-Roman ship Arles-Rhône 3, raised from the Rhône River in 2004. Historical diving footage, 3D scans, and animated reconstructions merge into a contemporary media artifact—both documentary and speculative. A synthesized Latin voiceover, fragmented and partially unintelligible, and the presence of digital noise shift focus from information to the sensory materiality of image, data, and wreck. The monitor, submerged in mineral oil, evokes the river’s fluid environment while cooling its electronics. In this dense space, archaeological evidence, digital data, and memory intertwine—exploring media’s materiality and the ways technology shapes our perception of history and loss.
